SGS Can Help You Meet the New Standard

OSHA has announced a final silica rule to improve workers’ protection from the dangers of respirable silica dust. You can assure compliance more easily to OSHA’s standard with SGS’ new silica kits. We’ve redesigned the way we send out pumps/media to match the requirements of the new standard allowing you to easily monitor any silica dust hazards. And of course, you’re in the best hands as SGS currently meets all of the new laboratory qualifications for silica and we’re ready to help. Note, the final rule reduces the permissible exposure limit for crystalline silica to 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air, averaged over an eight-hour shift.

The proper respirable silica sampling equipment is available to you through our popular FreePumpLoan™ program. Make sure you request the sampling pumps, media and cyclones to collect your exposure samples for respirable silica to correspond to the new standard. There are three forms of Crystalline Silica – Quartz(the most common), Cristobalite and Tridymite.

The new silica standard is based on these three forms of Crystalline Silica. To meet the standard on a specific job dealing with a certain material there should be representative samples taken and analyzed for all three forms of Crystalline Silica. The kits below can be ordered for this by selecting the kit(s) with 3 Forms.

Once the representative sample is taken and only Quartz is determined to be present in the representative sample, analysis of Quartz only is acceptable. The kits below can be ordered for this by selecting the kit(s) with 1 Form.

Silica PPI Sample Kit – 3 Forms w/ RD

This kit provides the simplest means of taking your Silica sample(s). The Test Report will include all 3 forms of Silica as well as Respirable Dust. Includes everything you need all the way down to tape to close your package up to send back to us. Freight not included.

Personal Exposure Vest

Our newly redesigned Personal Exposure Vest allows workers to wear monitoring equipment more comfortably and safely than ever before. Easy-to-use elastic loops are located throughout the vest to hold the tubing and wires in place with all samples collected directly in the breathing zone. These loops help to eliminate any chance of tubing snagging or kinking while ensuring that monitoring equipment is in the same position for every individual, every time – eliminating the chance of error as a result of incorrect placement or differences in placement among the sample population.

ORDERING THE VESTS

You have the ability to purchase your own vests, borrow them under the FreePumpLoan™ Program, or rent them. Purchases can be made online or through our Client Service Center at 888-432-5227. By utilizing our FreePumpLoan™ with your order; you’d receive your vest pre-populated and ready-to-go with very little assembly required. Delivered in a single convenient package, your vest would come with the pumps, exact tubing sizes, badges and monitoring equipment necessary to complete your sampling event. Contact us and let us know what you’re sampling for, we’ll send you your vest with everything you need to collect your sample(s). When you’re done, you send the vest back and we’ll provide the data. Nominal usage fees will be applied.
